‘X-Men Origins’ Cast Joins ‘John Carter of Mars’

It's no secret: Disney has done some crazy, but not necessarily stupid stuff. For example, Underdog in 2007, Around the World in 80 Days in 2004. There's also the questionable G-Force, which is released July 24th in theaters. John Carter of Mars, based off of the book by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is about a Civil War veteran who's assigned to Mars where he's captured by its life. New info on the flick is out now; Taylor Kitsch will be Carter and Lynn Collins will be the princess he saves. Both were in X-Men Origins: Wolverine last month.

A really cool thing about this movie is that it's directed and co-written by Andrew Stanton. Smart move, mouse ears. Stanton has worked for the Disney-owned company for years, being involved in pretty much every Pixar movie (most recently, his animated tale WALL∙E took home an Oscar for "Best Animated Feature".) John Carter of Mars will be his first live-action film! The other screenwriter for Carter is Michael Chabon, who came up with the movie idea for Spidey 2. I'm sure that John Carter of Mars will be a huge hit, as all Disney movies are, but the true test is whether or not we'll remember it in a few years or not. Pixar native Stanton is promising; he's the only person who can make it rock.
