Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki Recruited for ‘Red Dawn’

Okay, so Entertainment Weekly has proven two things in its time on newsstands and online: first that it has smart and funny people like Stephen King and Diablo Cody writing articles off and on. Second is that the magazine deserves way more credit for reliable film news. It was reported today that Josh Peck (The Wackness, Drake and Josh) and Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) are adding to the cast of Chris Hemsworth for the remake of war drama Red Dawn. Hemsworth will fill Patrick Swayze's shoes to be Jed Eckert; Peck will play Jed's younger brother and standout quarterback Matt, originally portrayed by Charlie Sheen and Palicki will play Toni Mason. Jed's crush was played by Jennifer Grey in the 1984 version. Red Dawn is about some high school kids in Colorado who are forced to hide after Soviet and Cuban troops invade the educational facility. The teens soon find a solution in guerilla warfare by protesting the soldiers with the football team emblem "The Wolverines". Stunt coordinator Dan Bradley makes his directorial debut with Dawn and Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, The Last House on the Left (2009)) scraps the screenplay.

I think that this movie sounds pretty exciting and I do like Josh Peck. I don't watch Friday Night Lights so I'm unable to judge how well Adrianne Palicki acts. It's due out September 24, 2010.
