‘Stretch Armstrong’ Movie Opens Spring 2011

This is the first I'm hearing of a Stretch Armstrong movie. Now I know studio execs are insane.

The movie will be written by Steve Oedekerk (the guy behind The Nutty Professor, Evan Almighty, and Barnyard movie and Nickelodeon spin-off series), however the director has yet to be announced. The producer is clear, though: Brian Grazer. Wow, dude, going from assembling American Gangster, Changeling and A Beautiful Mind to THIS?

Grazer said the following in a press release from IESB.net-

"Stretch Armstrong is a character I have wanted to see on screen for a long time. He's an unconventional kind of super hero with a power that no one would want. It's a story about a guy stretching - if you will - the limits of what is possible to become all that he can be."

Hasbro has done a Transformers (which was surprisingly exciting) and a G.I Joe movie (which looks…skeptical) come August 7th, but a Stretch Armstrong? A movie about a nerd collecting the action figures would be better entertainment. And an Oedekerk screenplay, seriously.

Stretch Armstrong "stretches" into theaters April 15th, 2011.
