'The Smurfs’ Gets a Director

I've been dreading the Smurfs movie since the day I heard about it. Well according to Variety, it has a director: Raja Gosnell. Gosnell has done some bad things in his career, and those bad things are Big Momma's House, Yours, Mine and Ours, and both of the Scooby-Doo live-action movies among others. David N. Weiss' talent is being wasted in this movie, coming off of writing stuff like Rugrats, Mission Hill and Shrek 2. The Smurfs looks to be another Alvin and the Chipmunks; live-action junk meets animated junk. John Lithgow and Julia Sweeney are in talks to star.
