‘Thor’, ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers’ Movie Updates

Marvel Entertainment reported its First Quarter earnings today and gave away some updates on upcoming movies during Marvel's quarterly conference call.

Iron Man 2 starts filming this Thursday, May 7th, the latest adaptation from Marvel. But they also announced this morning that Thor is set to start filming next spring during First Quarter. No casting news yet, but Marvel said to expect that in the next few months. If all goes well, Thor is prepared for a May 20th, 2011 release.

The First Avenger: Captain America movie was also in the briefing today. Joe Johnston is announced to direct (Jurassic Park III, Hidalgo) and filming is to start in the summer of 2010. Captain America is scheduled to be released July 22nd, 2011.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Marvel's President of Production Kevin Feige discussed a bit about The Avengers, too-

"Zak Penn is already on board The Avengers [as writer] and he's spending a lot of his time looking into what we're doing with Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, seeing how we're tying it all together. And he's beginning to outline the script now – he'll be doing that over the summer."

The Avengers is announced to come to theaters May 4th, 2012.
