Monica Bellucci Joins ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ Cast

The Matrix trilogy's Monica Bellucci is hitched to the Disney film The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Variety reports. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce.

She'll play Veronica, a sorceress and the ex-love to Nicolas Cage's character, Balthazar Blake. The movie is about a sorcerer who finds and trains a young protégé to help him fight evil forces in modern-day Manhattan. It's currently shooting in New York and is directed by John Turteltaub, a producer of the National Treasure movies.

It's based off of the poem "Der Zauberlehrling" by Johann Wolfgang Goeth and writers include Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro (The Uninvited), Matt Lopez (Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain) and Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal (Mona Lisa Smile, Flicka).

The Sorcerer's Apprentice also stars Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Toby Kebbell. Hopefully it won't be as bad as The Celebrity Appentice is.

The Disney flick has an announced July 16, 2010 release date.
