Father of Invention is about an inventor whose machine goes terribly awry. Oh sweet mother of God, we've seen this before! Wait, I'm not done. It's after he spends eight years in prison where the story gets original: he finds his ex-wife has spent all of his money and has gotten a new husband. Is that funny; is that funny to you? It could be. We know that movies that don't show the actual journey, instead the aftermath, are fantastic and original. Remember Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby? That was a monumental point in Adam McKay's and Will Ferrell's career alike. American Beauty, which Kevin Spacey starred in, was a slight comedy in a lot of the actor's scenes; Spacey playing what I thought was a hilarious mid-life-crisis badass.
Father of Invention is a comedy, too, although this time around it's an independent movie. Spacey is no stranger to indie films, having starred in Telstar, Moon and the upcoming Shrink, which he also produced, out July 24th. Spacey will also produce this movie as well. Trent Cooper, the man who spawned Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector is directing with Jonathan D. Krane (Point of Betrayal) and N. Beattie Rapaport (TV series John from Cincinatti and Sons of Anarchy) writing along with himself. Heather Graham, Johnny Knoxville and Camilla Belle are all set to star in the movie and now Virginia Madsen is joining in on the fun, according to Variety. She'll play opposite Spacey as his ex-wife.
